Located on the Mekong River, Laos’ capital Vientiane is where you’ll find important holy monuments, including the country’s most revered Buddhist monument, Pha That Luang and the Haw Phra Kaew (where the Emerald Buddha is housed). It’s also home to other monuments, including Patuxai – commemorating Lao independence, and Wat Si Saket – a favourite of the 19th century King of Laos.
In Vang Vieng, make the trek to Thousand Island Lake, then make time to explore the famous caves located close by. The most famous of these is Tham Jang, which gained notoriety when it was repurposed as a bunker to stave off the Chinese during the 19th century.
Well-known for its many festivals, regardless of when you travel, there’s a very good chance the timing will coincide with a local festival. Among the best festivals you’ll find the Lao Handicrafts Festival, the annual Laos Fire Boat Festival, the Laos Food Festival (yum!), and the Lao New Year (go prepared to be inundated (with water), literally.
A highlight in Laos, Luang Prabang is a UNESCO World Heritage site. With the region in and around Luang Prabang home to all that’s synonymous with Laos – buddhist monuments, caves, and waterfalls – it’s a destination that should definitely be part of any Laos tour. Luang Prabang highlights include Wat Sene and Wat Xieng Thong (Golden City Temple) and the Pak Ou Caves, located in a dramatic limestone cliff overlooking the Mekong River. It’s here you’ll find thousands of miniature Buddhas in various positions from meditation to nirvana.
Get a taste of local life by heading to Phosi Market where villagers shop. Be sure to arrive early for the best experience of the bustling atmosphere and range of food and products. You can also gain an insight to local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Quay, Hmong Village, Ban Ou, Laoloum Village and Ban Thapene and Khmu Village.

A Day in Xi’an with CathyI really enjoyed my recent private tour with China Tours! I remembered I took a China Tours about 13 years ago in Beijing and since I had a long weekend during a recent business trip, I decided to take the chance on them again and booked on-line. Working with Martha via email on short notice and right before the National Holiday, she was able to arrange a 1-day private trip for me to the Terracotta Warriors, Mosque, and the Xi'an Wall with Cathy K. as my tour guide. Even before my tour began, Cathy reached out to me and gave suggested a few sites to visit in the city the afternoon I arrived. Morning of, pick up time was confirmed via WeChat and Cathy picked me up in a nice minivan and was escorted all day by a VERY knowledgeable tour guide in Cathy. She knew the tour well, the sites visited and their history, shared many welcoming stories and information. Her English was almost perfect and welcoming after a long business trip. More importantly, she knew her city well and made several great food recommendations - local lunch was amazing and so were the pomegranates! She even helped me purchase some jade necklaces as gifts. Although it rained all day long, Cathy kept the tour upbeat and engaging - cannot say that about my sneakers that did not make the trip home. The next day, Cathy went the extra mile by making sure I made it to the airport and my flight chatting me Chinese phrases for both the taxi driver and check in counter to ensure if needed I would not miss my flight. I would like to give a BIG "XIE XIE" to CATHY K - an outstanding tour guide (and food connoisseur)! I very much enjoyed my day (wishing I had longer) and look forward to my return and another China Tours tour with hopefully Cathy K again. - Steven P wrote a review 2 October 2024
Amazing Trip with China Tours 2024China is an amazing country to visit, and China Tours did an excellent job planning and arranging our itinerary. They handled all of the transportation and bookings for the hotels and sites. We went on the 12 day tour that included Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Guilin and Shanghai. At each location we had knowledgeable local guide and there was ample free time to explore on our own. The accommodations were all 4-5 stars hotels in great locations and excellent breakfast. - PVR wrote a review 14 September 2024

Highly recommend China Tours!I was recommended China tours through a family friend. Lora was amazing and nothing was too much trouble for her. She devised an itinerary based on my needs. I asked many questions and received prompt replies. We had a driver and English-speaking tour guide in each area. I would highly recommend China tours to anyone wishing to travel to China. - Frank O wrote a review 15 August 2024New YorkBucket List Memorable Trip !First, we would like to thanked Martha for her great organizational skills, very accommodating and understanding as we have to postponed our trip from March to July 2024. The trips were very well organized. All the tour guides from Kevin in Beijing, Helen in Xi’an and John in Shanghai were all very professional, Knowledgeable about the historical aspects of each place, very kind and accommodating. Everything was great and enjoyable, except the weather was not cooperating, it’s too hot and humid. Thank-you all ! From New York, Frank and Aida
