Boasting over 700 caves, 2,000 painted statues, and 40 thousand square meters of mural paintings, the Mogao Grottoes are spectacular on another level. Starting from 366 A.D., the grottoes were continuously built for around 1,000 years across 11 dynasties or periods. It is the largest, best-preserved grotto temple site in China and regarded as a world-renowned center of Buddhist art.
