Detailed Itinerary
Your tour begins after a morning pickup from your hotel lobby with advance confirmation provided. Greeted by your guide and driver, on pick up, it’s time to sit back and relax in your private, airconditioned vehicle as you are chauffeured into the heart of Chongqing to start your exploration.
The first stop is bustling Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street, centered around Chongqing’s most iconic landmark, the Liberation Monument. This area is the commercial and cultural heart of the city, a vibrant shopping district characterised by modern malls, flagship stores, and local restaurants. Explore Kuixinglou Square, a landmark that has become a symbol of the city’s dynamic spirit by its distinctive architecture.
From there, experience one of Chongqing’s most unique urban phenomena, Liziba Station. Here you’ll see the incredible engineering feat of a metro train line passing directly through the middle of a residential building. Offering an insight to the ingenuity of local Chongqing residents and authorities, the station will give you new found respect for the way that city life and infrastructure has adapted to challenges.
From the station, you will make your way to E’ling Park. As the highest park in Chongqing and a contrast to an otherwise modern city on the up, the beautiful, layered gardens are a peaceful reprieve where you can learn about its history as a private villa. Challenge yourself to climb to the pavilion at its peak and be rewarded with a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of the city’s dramatic skyline, surrounding mountains, and the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers.
Enjoy the relaxed travel by car to the People’s Great Hall at the expansive People’s Square. This magnificent building, inspired by traditional imperial styles, is a defining symbol of the city. Make the most of proximity to the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum located opposite the square. Here you can learn more about the region’s history, culture, and the monumental Three Gorges Project, yet another feat of engineering prowess.
For a truly local experience and if time permits, join residents on a ride aboard the famous Yangtze River Cableway. This public transport has become a must-do attraction for travelers, offering a unique aerial drone-like view of the mighty Yangtze River which connects the two halves of the mountainous city.
The tour’s final highlight is a stroll through Shancheng Alley (Mountain City Alley), an historic lane that winds along the ancient city wall. Lining with traditional shops, quaint teahouses, and cafes, it feels like stepping back in time. Discover ruins of historical sites, including a former French church, and get a real taste of Chongqing at leisure when you take time out for a cup of tea in a teahouse overlooking the city.
The tour will finish around 5:00pm when you will be transferred back to your hotel.
