Highlights

Chengdu
Jiuzhaigou

Surprise yourself with this five day tour in the exciting, beautiful and natural heart of China. First visit Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province and spend a day working as a panda volunteer at the Dujiangyan Panda Base. Work up close with Chengdu’s most famous residents and learn how they are cared for by local panda keepers. Enjoy a contrast in experience with a day visiting busy Jinli Street, then surrender to the quiet contemplation of Wangjiang Pavilion Park where you can enjoy local tea customs. Travel from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou and spend the next two days taking in the stunning natural wonders of Jiuzhaigou Scenic Spot and Huanglong Scenic Spot, both of which are located in Jiuzhaigou National Park. Idyllic in all ways, the beauty you’ll discover here is a welcome contrast to modern China. It will change your perception of China’s heart and leave you wanting more. Inclusive of four nights accommodation in thoughtfully selected quality hotels, daily breakfasts, dinners in Jiuzhaigou, flights from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou, airconditioned vehicle travel, bilingual guides in each destination, this is a once in a lifetime experience for the traveler who wants more from their adventures.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive in Chengdu

Start your classic panda adventure when you arrive in Chengdu and are greeted by your knowledgeable local guide. From either the airport or train station, you’ll be driven to your hotel in air conditioned comfort. Of course there’s no doubt that giant pandas rule in Chengdu, but there’s much more to experience in this exciting city. Enjoy a relaxed introduction to Chengdu on route, and once checked in to your hotel, get out and wander the area in close proximity. Remember to speak with your guide for advice on local sights and dining options. They will be able to assist and even help you order if necessary. It’s the perfect way to experience local Chengdu life.

Meals included: None

Day 2 – Chengdu – Dujiangyan Panda Base - Chengdu

Fortify yourself with a hearty hotel breakfast because today’s adventure requires stamina and enthusiasm. As a panda volunteer at the Dujiangyan Panda Base, you’ll have the chance to enjoy a truly unique and memorable hands-on experience. Your guide will take care of all the details, escorting you to through the entry and introducing you to the panda keepers. You will clean the working area, prepare bamboos, make panda’s favorite food of “Wowotou” (steamed corn buns), learn scientific facts about the pandas, and closely watch the keepers feeding and training the pandas. The panda keepers are very experienced and supervise your activities, with translation provided by your local guide. Of course you’ll want to take plenty of photos, especially with the certificate awarded to you as a memento from this very special experience.

Notes:

1. Panda Keeper Program has an age limit from 8 years to 70 years. For children under 8 years who are accompanied by an adult, they can take the standard panda tour in the panda base, but not be able to be the panda volunteers due to the age restriction.

2. As a maximum of 60 keepers are allowed each day, it is advisable that you book the program at least two weeks before your departure. You will appreciate that sometimes adjustments may be made to the program due to pandas’ health condition. Accurate information about the program will be provided to you by our travel consultants as soon as we are advised.

3. Each Panda Keeper Program applicant must provide a Physical Examination Record prior to the commencement of the day’s activities.

4. Panda keepers are strongly advised to be guided by their supervisors and should approach the animals with extreme caution and only under supervision. Though pandas look gentle, they are animals and their behaviors can be unpredictable.

5. On the day working as the panda keepers, wear the pants and comfortable shoes with good traction. And should not apply perfume, nail polish, strong fragranced skincare, sunscreen, and insect repellent, because the pandas are very sensitive to smell.

Day 3 – Chengdu - Jiuzhaigou

Expect a total change of pace today after checking out of your hotel. First stop is one of Chengu’s most famous market areas - Jinli Street. The narrow street lined with unique regional street food, traditional artisans, and modern merchandise is an opportunity to immerse yourself in typical local culture. Jinli Street is popular with locals and travelers alike, not least because of the opportunity to sample traditional food snacks and meet local craftsmen. Check out the traditional wares – pottery, bamboo, silk, fans, and umbrellas – or enjoy a contemporary twist by visiting some of the more modern fascinations found in the array of quirky boutiques. Take advantage of the chance to sample Chengdu’s famous street food here too. After working your way through Jinli Street, it’s time to relax with a leisurely wander through Wangjiang Pavilion Park. Amble among the rare bamboo groves and drink traditional Chinese fragrant teas. From here you’ll be transferred to the airport for the flight to Jiuzhaigou. Your local guide will transport you to the hotel and assist with check you and dinner, if required.

Meals included: Breakfast and dinner

Day 4 - Jiuzhaigou

Today’s adventure commences when you are accompanied by your guide to visit Jiuzhaigou Scenic Spot. Located in the north of Sichuan Province, Juizhaighou Scenic Spot is famous for its stunning natural beauty. Steeped in mythology and legend, Juizhaigou National Park is considered sacred by the local Tibetan and Qiang people and it’s easy to see why. During your travels today, you’ll have the chance to take in the spectacular view of Nuorilang Waterfall and admire the Long Lake which is surrounded by rolling mountains and enjoys pure bule sky as background. The tour also takes in the Five-Color Pond and Pearl Beach. Here you can absorb the ethereal beauty of Jiuizhai Valley and appreciate the likeness that Five-Color Pond has to a peacock with fanning its multicolored tail. There are few places with comparable natural beauty in China, so be prepared for multiple photo opportunities. Finish the day by returning to the hotel for dinner.

Meals included: Breakfast and dinner served in Hotel

Day 5 – Jiuzhaigou and Departure

Continuing in the same vein from the previous day, enjoy the emphasis on China’s natural beauty when you visit Huanglong Scenic Spot. Revered for its stunning views of colorful ponds that are formed by calcite deposits, you will also find waterfalls, caves, snow-capped mountains, and valleys in Huanglong National Park.

Now preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Huanglong National Park is especially important for the role it plays in providing a home to many endangered species, including the giant panda and golden snub-nosed monkey. As a place of natural beauty, a visit here is a a wonderful contrast to the big bustling cities that are typically associated with modern China. Your tour concludes when you are driven to Jiuzhaigou airport for travel to your next destination.

Tripadvisor score Once in a life time. Don’t miss it!

Oct 2025 • Friends

We love China Tours, and glad we chose them.

So far, we’re having a wonderful experience with our tour guide, Helena, in Hong Kong. She is incredibly knowledgeable, speaks excellent English, and shared so much fascinating information about every place we visited. She took us to many interesting and beautiful locations that we might never have discovered on our own. Throughout the day, she was patient, kind, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Her professionalism and friendly personality made the tour both enjoyable and memorable. We are very grateful for her guidance and would highly recommend her to anyone visiting Hong Kong, and we can’t wait to visit China too!

Tripadvisor score An unforgettable experience in Xi’an!

Oct 2025 • Couples

This is the fourth time I write this review because tripadvisor keeps saying it was made using AI. As a non-native English speaker, I used AI to give Cathy the highest praise I could for taking care of us during our trip to Xi'an. She's the best and takes care of every single detail. To Cathy my biggest thanks and to tripadvisor and its insipid AI I hope you detect a drop in content creation due to this.

I was a little nervous- never been to Asia, never used this company etc but WOW. I was completely blown away by the service. I booked the two week tour that included Beijing- Xi-an Yangtze cruise- Zhangjiajie and Shanghai. The hotels were fabulous. The transportation included two high speed trains, plane, and private driving service. The guides were top notch and stayed with us until we were on the train and another met us at the other end when we stepped off. Our group was small so we were mobile and able to navigate easily. There wasn’t any shopping stops.

Tripadvisor score Great time in China

Sept 2025 • Solo

I traveled through China with China Tours from Sep. 11th to 25th and had a great time. I visited Beijing, Xian, Chongqing, Yangtze river cruise, Zhangjiajie and Shanghai. Everything went smoothly and the tour guides are really helpful and professional. It would be fair to mention their names, just to give them their due: Lee in Beijing, Helen in Xian, Winnie in Chongqing, Lucy in Zhangjiajie and John and Cici in Shanghai. There are many highlights in a country like China, but from a foreigner's point of view maybe Chongqing stands out clearly, if only for unusual, and touring with Winnie, with her deep knowledge of the city made for a great experience.

I had a fantastic trip in China. I was met by 4 different guides in China in each city. In Beijing, I was met by Lindsey , in Xian By Linda, Warren in Shangai and Mathew in Hong kong. They were all very professional and I enjoyed the stories. You have a beautiful country and a lot of history I will definitely recommend China Tours. I met some wonderful people too. The highlight of the tour was surprising my son Jason in Hong Kong as he was celebrating his 30th 🥰

Tripadvisor score The best tour I have ever had

Sept 2025 • Solo

Usually I only write negative reviews, but this time it is an exception. Unfortunately I can give only 5 stars, but the company deserves 100 stars. Everything was exceptional, from organizing starting with some places I had in mind to visit, to every single detail of the trip. In other words it was perfect. I chose what I wanted to visit and Martha, the person who replied to my first inquiry, proposed the tour. I wanted to be alone in the tour, which is the best (only you and the guide), but maybe due to the requests, in two places I was with another couple from USA, which was really great. While on tour I realized that there are places I want to visit, but there was no time for this. This means next year I have to come back, but this time I will be alone. There are some things when you have to be alone, no matter how nice the other group members are. Of course if I will come back, I will use China Tours.
