For those interested in Buddhist traditions and meditation, this tour takes you to the beating spiritual heart of the religion in Tibet and to the top of the world. See the magnificent scenery and devoted people that produced the Dalai Lama, inspiring amazing architectural and artistic wonders still carrying rich allure for travelers today. Be embraced by the spirit of famous holy monasteries as you move amongst them, breathing in the high altitude natural wonders of mountains, lakes and glaciers. Then, fulfil your dream by journeying to the Everest base camp to experience and admire majestic view of Everest Peak from Tibetan land.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Lhasa

Upon arrival in Lhasa, you will be met by your friendly tour guide and transferred to your hotel. Lhasa is at an altitude of 3,650 meters, so after settling in, you can take a rest to get acclimatized to the high altitude there, and get ready to take in the incredible atmosphere in this holy city

Tips: It is suggested you take an orientation walk around. Keep warm, do not drink alcohol, avoid excessive physical activity and have a sound sleep to adapt the high altitude.

Meals included: None

Day 2 - Lhasa

Set out early for the highlight of Lhasa, the imposing Potala Palace, the sacred, mysterious palace dating back to 7th century and the spiritual center of Tibetan people thereafter. Take your time to learn more about the former residence of Dalai Lama. Then, move to the Jokhang Temple, the most divine and respected Buddhist temple among locals and pilgrims, with a history of over 1,300 years. Encircling the temple is the Barkhor Circuit, a bustling commercial area and popular bazaar into which hundreds of pilgrims are drawn daily to perform rituals and explore shops and stalls offering traditional handcrafts and cuisine.
Following is the final stop, the Ani Tsankhung Nunnery built for meditation by the 7th century Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. See the resident nuns' skill and artistry as they attend to producing goods for sale, to support themselves.

Note: Taking photos and video, wearing skirts, short pants, sunglasses and hat are all prohibited inside the Potala Palace.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3 - Lhasa

Start today by taking in the beauty of the buildings, treasures and location of Norbulingka, the summer resort of Dalai Lama for several generations. Visitors also have an opportunity to learn how to produce Thangka, a unique Tibetan scroll painting with silk embroidery.

Drepung Monastery enjoys the highest position among Gelugpa monasteries. The large complex houses many collectibles including porcelains, Thangka, scriptures, bronze articles and Buddha statues, armor and weapons. It is a major center of learning about the civilization of Tibet and is a source of information and inspiration for locals.

On a visit to the notable Sera Monastery in the afternoon, debating amongst the monks is on the schedule. Debates provide an opportunity for monks to demonstrate their scholarship and rise through the ranks. Visitors usually are struck by the physicality of the debates, with clapping their hands and pushing their partners for an answer.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 4 - Lhasa – Gyantse – Shigatse

Have your camera ready to capture some spectacular scenery as you set out early in the morning for a 2.5 hour drive along the old Mountain Road to Shigatse. Along the way, there are many viewing platforms from which to see Yamdrok Lake, one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet, situated on an altitude of 4,440 meters and surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The massive expanse of slow moving Karola Glacier is a natural wonder as it spills into two overhanging glaciers feeding into the Nianchu River.

Continuing on to Gyangtse, a stop will be made at Palcho Monastery, an exquisite structure built back in the early 15th century. Typical of Tibetan Buddhist monastic architecture the building combines pagoda and temple. Palcho Monastery is famous for its long history, complete construction, special religious value and well-preserved beautiful paintings and statues. Lastly, pass along Gyangtse Old Street to see the lifestyle of the locals in their houses, shops and wares.
At about 5 pm, arrive in Shigatse and check in to the hotel.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 5 - Shigatse – Dingri

Travelling aboard a comfortable vehicle with the tour guide, you will be driven to the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, the largest temple in the Shigatse area, dating back to the year of 1447. It is the residence of the fifth Panchen Lama, leader of Tibetan Buddhists, and an eminent seat of learning. History of the center, religious and cultural importance, cultural relics and beautiful gardens appeal, as does the splendid new Palace of Panchen on the east side of the monastery, the summer palace of the Panchen Lama.

Afterwards embark on a comfortable and exhilarating drive towards Dingri, stopping at Sakya Monastery, a group of structures dating back to mid-13th century, serving as the main temple of the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism. This colorful monastery painted in red, white and hyacinth on the exterior walls, contains many attractions in the numerous halls, Tibetan Buddhist scriptures, murals and Thangkas.
Continue driving to the second stop at the town of Lhatse, a small town of a few thousand people in the valley of the Yarlung Tsangpo River. After a further 2 hours driving from Lhatse, you’ll reach Dingri, where you will stay overnight. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

Note: Prepare well for the long and hard journey. Meals are always simple for limited local conditions.

Tripadvisor score Once in a life time. Don’t miss it!

Oct 2025 • Friends

We love China Tours, and glad we chose them.

So far, we’re having a wonderful experience with our tour guide, Helena, in Hong Kong. She is incredibly knowledgeable, speaks excellent English, and shared so much fascinating information about every place we visited. She took us to many interesting and beautiful locations that we might never have discovered on our own. Throughout the day, she was patient, kind, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Her professionalism and friendly personality made the tour both enjoyable and memorable. We are very grateful for her guidance and would highly recommend her to anyone visiting Hong Kong, and we can’t wait to visit China too!

Tripadvisor score An unforgettable experience in Xi’an!

Oct 2025 • Couples

This is the fourth time I write this review because tripadvisor keeps saying it was made using AI. As a non-native English speaker, I used AI to give Cathy the highest praise I could for taking care of us during our trip to Xi'an. She's the best and takes care of every single detail. To Cathy my biggest thanks and to tripadvisor and its insipid AI I hope you detect a drop in content creation due to this.

I was a little nervous- never been to Asia, never used this company etc but WOW. I was completely blown away by the service. I booked the two week tour that included Beijing- Xi-an Yangtze cruise- Zhangjiajie and Shanghai. The hotels were fabulous. The transportation included two high speed trains, plane, and private driving service. The guides were top notch and stayed with us until we were on the train and another met us at the other end when we stepped off. Our group was small so we were mobile and able to navigate easily. There wasn’t any shopping stops.

Tripadvisor score Great time in China

Sept 2025 • Solo

I traveled through China with China Tours from Sep. 11th to 25th and had a great time. I visited Beijing, Xian, Chongqing, Yangtze river cruise, Zhangjiajie and Shanghai. Everything went smoothly and the tour guides are really helpful and professional. It would be fair to mention their names, just to give them their due: Lee in Beijing, Helen in Xian, Winnie in Chongqing, Lucy in Zhangjiajie and John and Cici in Shanghai. There are many highlights in a country like China, but from a foreigner's point of view maybe Chongqing stands out clearly, if only for unusual, and touring with Winnie, with her deep knowledge of the city made for a great experience.

They were all very professional and I enjoyed the stories. You have a beautiful country and a lot of history I will definitely recommend China Tours. I met some wonderful people too. The highlight of the tour was surprising my son Jason in Hong Kong as he was celebrating his 30th 🥰

Tripadvisor score The best tour I have ever had

Sept 2025 • Solo

Usually I only write negative reviews, but this time it is an exception. Unfortunately I can give only 5 stars, but the company deserves 100 stars. Everything was exceptional, from organizing starting with some places I had in mind to visit, to every single detail of the trip. In other words it was perfect. I chose what I wanted to visit and Martha, the person who replied to my first inquiry, proposed the tour. I wanted to be alone in the tour, which is the best (only you and the guide), but maybe due to the requests, in two places I was with another couple from USA, which was really great. While on tour I realized that there are places I want to visit, but there was no time for this. This means next year I have to come back, but this time I will be alone. There are some things when you have to be alone, no matter how nice the other group members are. Of course if I will come back, I will use China Tours.
