Kaili

There is much to delight in this tour combining awesome natural wonders in the national park and waterfall with an experience of ancient minority cultures and crafts that take you back in time.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Guiyang

On arrival in Guiyang, your English speaking guide will greet you at the airport or train station and escort you to the pre-booked hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy at your leisure.

Meals included: None

Day 2 - Guiyang – Anshun – Guiyang

The day begins when you are picked up from your hotel by the guide and taken on a 2.5 hour drive to reach the spectacular Huangguoshu Waterfall. Unfolding before you are breathtaking views of green carpeted mountains and crystal streams reminiscent of many landscape paintings. The Huangguoshu Waterfall is the largest in China and the largest in the cluster of falls on the Baishui River. Viewing platforms enable you to capture different perspectives of this natural phenomenon – from the pavilion in front of the falls and from a viewing aisle in a cave behind the curtain of water.

Return to your vehicle for a relaxing journey to Tianlong Tunbao Ancient Village. Step back in time to gain a sense of the military culture, where residents are descendants of the army in the Ming dynasty Hongwu period (1368-1398). Residents still adhere to the Ming dynasty’s way of life, language, costume, houses, religious faith and lifestyle. Drum towers, stone houses and artificial channels, are bound in tradition. As you stroll the streets taking in the atmosphere of this piece of history, your guide will share interesting information and anecdotes about the village’s history and attractions. Of particular note is the type of architecture, especially the distinctive forts resonant of defense capability, and stone houses in military color built around a courtyard. Take time out for a cup of herbal tea before attending the local Dixi Opera "Ground Opera" performance of one of the oldest plays that combines a worship ceremony with entertainment. Watch locals dressing up and wearing exquisitely crafted wooden masks and learn about the history and culture of the village.
You will then be transferred back to the hotel in Guiyang after the tour.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3 - Guiyang – Kaili

After the breakfast, start your exploration of Miao minority culture with a 2.5 hour drive to Qingman Miao Village. In a traditional welcoming ceremony, lovely local Miao girls in gorgeous traditional costumes will toast you with home-made rice wine at the entrance to the village. As you stroll through the village, admire the wooden stilt houses of typical Miao ethnic architecture and learn interesting facts about their traditional life. Watch firsthand the skill of Miao women weaving, embroidering and sewing traditional Miao clothes in the same way they have in the past. Appreciate the ancient textile process, delicate embroidery, ancient dyeing skill and other exquisite ethnic arts and crafts.

The tour continues to Shiqiao Miao Village, renowned for its picturesque landscape, inviting customs and the 1500 year old paper making technique. Watch villagers as they use tree bark to make white and colored paper and decorations, rarely seen elsewhere in this modern world.
At the end of the day, you will be transferred to the pre-booked hotel in Kaili.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 4 - Full Day Tour of Miao Villages

In the morning, you will travel to Jidao Miao Village set in a serene rural landscape, where you come into close contact with the locals and their laid back lifestyle on a visit to a local family. Check out buildings dating back to the Qing dynasty that still play an essential role in local life.

On returning to your vehicle, a short drive through rugged countryside will take you to Langde Miao Village, where stilted wooden buildings are set in idyllic scenery of lush paddy fields. Wander at leisure through the cobblestone streets to get a feel for the unhurried pace of life, friendly people, ancient architecture and unique ethnic customs.

Continue your journey south to Paika Miao Village to see craftsmen make Lusheng, a traditional bamboo musical instrument of the Miao and Dong people.
Finally arrive in Datang Short Skirt Miao Village, where local females dress traditionally in miniskirts, part of their distinct ethnic costumes. Of particular interest amongst the traditional architecture of buildings is the barn on the water, built almost four meters above water, as an ingenious way of protecting stores from fire, mice and insects.

You will be transferred back to the hotel in Kaili after the full day tour.

Meals included: Breakfast

Tripadvisor score Once in a life time. Don’t miss it!

Oct 2025 • Friends

We love China Tours, and glad we chose them.

So far, we’re having a wonderful experience with our tour guide, Helena, in Hong Kong. She is incredibly knowledgeable, speaks excellent English, and shared so much fascinating information about every place we visited. She took us to many interesting and beautiful locations that we might never have discovered on our own. Throughout the day, she was patient, kind, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Her professionalism and friendly personality made the tour both enjoyable and memorable. We are very grateful for her guidance and would highly recommend her to anyone visiting Hong Kong, and we can’t wait to visit China too!

Tripadvisor score An unforgettable experience in Xi’an!

Oct 2025 • Couples

This is the fourth time I write this review because tripadvisor keeps saying it was made using AI. As a non-native English speaker, I used AI to give Cathy the highest praise I could for taking care of us during our trip to Xi'an. She's the best and takes care of every single detail. To Cathy my biggest thanks and to tripadvisor and its insipid AI I hope you detect a drop in content creation due to this.

Tripadvisor score White Glove Treatment

Sept 2025 • Solo

I was a little nervous- never been to Asia, never used this company etc but WOW. I was completely blown away by the service. I booked the two week tour that included Beijing- Xi-an Yangtze cruise- Zhangjiajie and Shanghai. The hotels were fabulous. The transportation included two high speed trains, plane, and private driving service. The guides were top notch and stayed with us until we were on the train and another met us at the other end when we stepped off. Our group was small so we were mobile and able to navigate easily. There wasn’t any shopping stops.

Tripadvisor score Great time in China

Sept 2025 • Solo

I traveled through China with China Tours from Sep. 11th to 25th and had a great time. I visited Beijing, Xian, Chongqing, Yangtze river cruise, Zhangjiajie and Shanghai. Everything went smoothly and the tour guides are really helpful and professional. It would be fair to mention their names, just to give them their due: Lee in Beijing, Helen in Xian, Winnie in Chongqing, Lucy in Zhangjiajie and John and Cici in Shanghai. There are many highlights in a country like China, but from a foreigner's point of view maybe Chongqing stands out clearly, if only for unusual, and touring with Winnie, with her deep knowledge of the city made for a great experience.

I had a fantastic trip in China. I was met by 4 different guides in China in each city. In Beijing, I was met by Lindsey , in Xian By Linda, Warren in Shangai and Mathew in Hong kong. They were all very professional and I enjoyed the stories. You have a beautiful country and a lot of history I will definitely recommend China Tours. I met some wonderful people too. The highlight of the tour was surprising my son Jason in Hong Kong as he was celebrating his 30th 🥰

Tripadvisor score The best tour I have ever had

Sept 2025 • Solo

Usually I only write negative reviews, but this time it is an exception. Unfortunately I can give only 5 stars, but the company deserves 100 stars. Everything was exceptional, from organizing starting with some places I had in mind to visit, to every single detail of the trip. In other words it was perfect. I chose what I wanted to visit and Martha, the person who replied to my first inquiry, proposed the tour. I wanted to be alone in the tour, which is the best (only you and the guide), but maybe due to the requests, in two places I was with another couple from USA, which was really great. While on tour I realized that there are places I want to visit, but there was no time for this. This means next year I have to come back, but this time I will be alone. There are some things when you have to be alone, no matter how nice the other group members are. Of course if I will come back, I will use China Tours.
