Highlights

Lijiang

Be enthralled on many levels as you wonder at the splendor of dramatic mountain and forest scenery, bird land conservation, cultural entertainment by locals in a magnificent natural open air setting with mountain backdrop and immersion in ancient ethnic towns with their architecture and spiritual traditions blended, reflecting the legends and customs of an ancient trading route.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Lijiang

On arrival into Lijiang Sanyi International Airport, a dedicated tour guide will meet you outside the baggage claim area and transfer you to the heart of Lijiang Ancient Town, a UNESCO-listed town with a history dating back more than 800 years. Feel the vibrant, enduring spirit of the multi-cultural mix of people, individual ethnic characteristics expressed in building design and decoration, as you tread the stone streets and quaint bridges and explore shops, cafes and cultural artefacts in this ancient trading hub.

Picturesque scenery awaits at Black Dragon Pond Park, where temples, towers, pavilions and stone tablets from past ages reflect mirror-like in the pond against the backdrop of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Gain an understanding of the local Nakhi minority culture at the Dongba Culture Museum, where more than 12,000 cultural relics are on display.
At the end of the day, you will be transferred to the pre-booked hotel for check-in.

Meals included: None

Day 2 - Jade Dragon Snow Mountain – Baisha Village

After the breakfast, you will be driven to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the holy mountain in Nakhi culture, renowned for its spectacular setting of peaks, plateaus, glaciers, frozen waterfalls and forests. Travel by shuttle bus to reach an area where you will be entertained by the great show, Impression Lijiang, directed by Zhangyimou, the famous and talented director of the 2008 Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The show is performed at the outdoor theater against the backdrop of the Jade White Snow Mountain, by about 400 locals of 10 ethnic groups and 100 horses. Unsophisticated local people reproduce the traditional culture of Nakhi with sincerity, offering tourists a memorable experience of an ancient culture and civilization.

A cable car will take you to the Spruce Plateau, a vast lawn hidden by a primitive spruce forest, shrouded in lingering mists. Savor this fairyland of stunning natural beauty of spruces, plateaus, pines, and clouds and the fascinating views of the surrounding snow-capped mountain ranges. From a distance, Snow Mountain appears like a giant white dragon nestled in the clouds, which is how it was given its name.

Arriving at Baisha Village there is much to admire in the distinctive cultural characteristics, precious historical artifacts and especially the unique Baisha Murals. Different religions appear in the same wall painting, including Buddhism, Taoism and even Lamaism, indicative of an important cultural relic in the study of Chinese history of arts and religion. After the day’s tour, you will be returned to the hotel in Lijiang.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3 - Tiger Leaping Gorge

Set off for a 3-hour (100 kilometers) drive on freeway to Tiger Leaping Gorge. Along the way, first stop is at the First Bend of Yangtze River, where the headwaters of the Yangtze River take a sharp ninety degree turn towards northeast slowing its pace. In a broader area, the river flows quietly through the picturesque scenery framed with overlapping peaks, terraced fields and local villages.

In the afternoon, continue exploring at Tiger Leaping Gorge, formed by the convergence of steep vertical ridges on opposite banks rising more than 3900 meters, forcing the flowing waters of the Jinsha River into a narrow gap, causing thunderous whirlpools and dangerous rushing waters. From well-paved pathways you can observe, hear and feel the spectacle of fast waters rushing and slamming into large rocks, or you can stand up close on the viewing deck to gaze at the torrents roaring between mountains.

On the way back to Lijiang, you’ll have an opportunity to admire the mysterious stone tablet with Sanskrit verses at Zhiyun Lamasery. Built in the ninth year of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng in 1727, the Lamasery is renowned for its mysterious legends, enchanting landscape and colorful blend of architectural and artistic characteristics from the Han, Tibet, Bai and Nakhi minorities. Gracing the courtyard you will find five ancient trees planted two or three hundred years ago that enhance the spirit of the buildings on a beautiful site overlooking the lake.
At the end of the tour you will be transferred back to the hotel.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 4 - Shuhe Ancient Town – Depart from Lijiang

After breakfast, drive to Shuhe Ancient Town, an important trading village on the ancient Tea Horse Road. Charming and authentic Shuhe retains quite a laid-back vibe. Wandering around, you can enjoy the quiet cobbled alleyways, old stone bridges as well as slow paced lifestyle of the Nakhi people, undisturbed by the throngs of tourists. In the center of the town is Sifang Street, a lively market square surrounded by all sorts of shops with quaint wooden facades, reminders of thriving trade in past eras.

Afterwards, your guide and driver will escort you to the airport or the train station for your departure to the next destination.

Tripadvisor score Once in a life time. Don’t miss it!

Oct 2025 • Friends

We love China Tours, and glad we chose them.

So far, we’re having a wonderful experience with our tour guide, Helena, in Hong Kong. She is incredibly knowledgeable, speaks excellent English, and shared so much fascinating information about every place we visited. She took us to many interesting and beautiful locations that we might never have discovered on our own. Throughout the day, she was patient, kind, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Her professionalism and friendly personality made the tour both enjoyable and memorable. We are very grateful for her guidance and would highly recommend her to anyone visiting Hong Kong, and we can’t wait to visit China too!

Tripadvisor score An unforgettable experience in Xi’an!

Oct 2025 • Couples

This is the fourth time I write this review because tripadvisor keeps saying it was made using AI. As a non-native English speaker, I used AI to give Cathy the highest praise I could for taking care of us during our trip to Xi'an. She's the best and takes care of every single detail. To Cathy my biggest thanks and to tripadvisor and its insipid AI I hope you detect a drop in content creation due to this.

Tripadvisor score White Glove Treatment

Sept 2025 • Solo

I was a little nervous- never been to Asia, never used this company etc but WOW. I was completely blown away by the service. I booked the two week tour that included Beijing- Xi-an Yangtze cruise- Zhangjiajie and Shanghai. The hotels were fabulous. The transportation included two high speed trains, plane, and private driving service. The guides were top notch and stayed with us until we were on the train and another met us at the other end when we stepped off. Our group was small so we were mobile and able to navigate easily. There wasn’t any shopping stops.

Tripadvisor score Great time in China

Sept 2025 • Solo

I traveled through China with China Tours from Sep. 11th to 25th and had a great time. I visited Beijing, Xian, Chongqing, Yangtze river cruise, Zhangjiajie and Shanghai. Everything went smoothly and the tour guides are really helpful and professional. It would be fair to mention their names, just to give them their due: Lee in Beijing, Helen in Xian, Winnie in Chongqing, Lucy in Zhangjiajie and John and Cici in Shanghai. There are many highlights in a country like China, but from a foreigner's point of view maybe Chongqing stands out clearly, if only for unusual, and touring with Winnie, with her deep knowledge of the city made for a great experience.

I had a fantastic trip in China. I was met by 4 different guides in China in each city. In Beijing, I was met by Lindsey , in Xian By Linda, Warren in Shangai and Mathew in Hong kong. They were all very professional and I enjoyed the stories. You have a beautiful country and a lot of history I will definitely recommend China Tours. I met some wonderful people too. The highlight of the tour was surprising my son Jason in Hong Kong as he was celebrating his 30th 🥰

Tripadvisor score The best tour I have ever had

Sept 2025 • Solo

Usually I only write negative reviews, but this time it is an exception. Unfortunately I can give only 5 stars, but the company deserves 100 stars. Everything was exceptional, from organizing starting with some places I had in mind to visit, to every single detail of the trip. In other words it was perfect. I chose what I wanted to visit and Martha, the person who replied to my first inquiry, proposed the tour. I wanted to be alone in the tour, which is the best (only you and the guide), but maybe due to the requests, in two places I was with another couple from USA, which was really great. While on tour I realized that there are places I want to visit, but there was no time for this. This means next year I have to come back, but this time I will be alone. There are some things when you have to be alone, no matter how nice the other group members are. Of course if I will come back, I will use China Tours.
