Highlights

Hong Kong
Guangzhou

Enjoy two of China’s most dynamic capitals when you take this four-day explorer tour through the best of Hong Kong and Guangzhou’s highlights. Commence your adventure in Hong Kong and appreciate everything it has to offer: sensational views at Victoria Peak, glamor at Repulse Bay, the thrill of Stanley Market and the taste of Aberdeen Fishing Village. Learn more about the colonial influences evident in Hong Kong when you visit Nam Pak Hong and Hollywood Road. Hong Kong does a wonderful job of blending old and new, and it is every bit as exciting by day and night. For the second half of your tour, board the high-speed train to Guangzhou, a city that offers a contrast to Hong Kong. Here you’ll have time to explore landmarks of deep spiritual and political significance, including the Museum of the Mausoleum of Nanyue King, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall. Finish off your day here by wandering around famous Lychee Bay and Shamian Island, near the Pearl River, where you’ll discover European influences in the architecture. Return to Hong Kong for a final night on the tour. Inclusive of all four or five-star accommodation, daily breakfasts, all entry fees and train fares, wonderful local guides committed to showcasing the best of their cities, and the opportunity to discover another side to China, this is the perfect way to make the most of a short stay or add to any other travel you have planned in-country. Talk to us and we’ll bring your travel wishes to life.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive in Hong Kong

Your guide will be waiting at the airport with a welcoming sign and then take you to the pre-booked hotel. Together you will make your way to the hotel for check-in, while on the way taking in the sights and sounds of this cosmopolitan city which is vastly different from anywhere else in China. Take the rest of the day to rest, relax or explore in advance of tomorrow’s full itinerary. Remember to speak with your guide for advice on local sights and dining options. They will be able to assist and even help with ordering if necessary.

Meals included: None

Note: Make the most of your first night in Hong Kong by enjoying one of the many Hong Kong evening highlights, including a wander through Temple Street night market, a taste of Hong Kong nightlife at Lan Kwai Fong, a bird’s eye view of Hong Kong at night when you visit Victoria Peak, or a chance to watch A Symphony of Lights on Victoria Harbor. For an additional charge, we can arrange bookings for these activities – or any others you’d love to experience while on tour with us.

Day 2 – Hong Kong

Today’s exploration begins when you are collected from the hotel and venture to Victoria Peak. Here you will ascend the hill via the Peak Tram and step onto the breathtaking Sky Terrace 428. Commonly regarded as the highest point in Hong Kong, Victoria Peak offers visitors wonderful panoramic views of the entire city. Capture incredible photographic memories here.

Journey on to Repulse Bay, a typical Hong Kong beach that is now famous for its eye-wateringly priced real estate – reputed to be the most expensive in Hong Kong. After soaking in the vibe of the bay, you’ll be transported to Stanley Market, the quintessential Hong Kong street market. Known for its collection of typically Chinese curios, collectibles and souvenirs, you’ll have the opportunity to make a purchase or two without the hassle of haggling. Having worked up an appetite through the morning’s activities, you’ll have the chance to savor some of Hong Kong’s finest seafood at Aberdeen Fishing Village.

A short stop for lunch of your own choice is followed by a Hong Kong must-do – a Sampan ride that provides a taste of life in Aberdeen. From here you will be transferred to the Western end of Hong Kong Island to explore Nam Pak Hong. Famously regarded as one the oldest neighborhoods in Hong Kong, Nam Pak Hong, which translates as ‘South and North traders’, is a local institution. Learn about the original industrious and community-minded traders and merchants who created a business and nurtured a community in Sheung Wan. A center of import and export trade between China, Southeast Asia, and beyond, the surrounding streets are identified as Nam Pak Hong street, rather than being recognized by individual names. You will have a chance to wander through this still thriving precinct that established for the local Chinese during the days of British colonial rule. The legacy of wholesale trade and commerce endures today as it continues to be the main center of wholesale dried seafood and traditional Chinese medicines in Hong Kong.

Venture on to Hollywood Road, one of the original streets built by the British Royal Engineers. Learn about its importance as an antique market frequented by foreign merchants and sailors who sold wares they’d ‘collected’ on their travels through China. You might even pick up one or two of your own. For a change of pace, take time to reflect at Man Mo Temple, one of the earliest Chinese Temples in Hong Kong. Encircled by a seemingly infinite number of modern high rise buildings that seem to pierce the sky, you can’t help but feel that both the historical and contemporary are well-balanced here.

Pass by the Central District’s Statue Square on route to board an iconic Star Ferry for a trip across Victoria Harbor. Statue Square is the heartbeat of Hong Kong’s international banking center and evidence of its status as a financial center. The Star Ferry ride is just seven minutes from point to point, so have your camera ready. Land at Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade for a magnificent view looking back at the spectacular Hong Kong skyline.

Meals included: Breakfasts

Day 3 – Hong Kong – Guangzhou – Hong Kong

After breakfast this morning, you will be transferred to the Hong Kong West Kowloon train station where you’ll board the high-speed train to Guangzhou. On arrival in Guangzhou, your guide will meet you and commence your sightseeing here with a visit to the Museum of the Mausoleum of Nanyue King. The museum houses the tomb of Nanyue King and exhibits a wonderful collection of an excavated artifacts from around southern China.

Continue to visit the nearby Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, an octagonal palace-style structure built in the 1930s to commemorate the great revolutionary. The hall is a landmark building in Guangzhou and features a statue of Sun himself, as well as an octagonal main building set in extensive grounds with ancient trees and beautiful gardens. Move on to visit the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, where you will gain an insight into Chinese respect for family and ancestors in this large temple complex of cultural significance.

Continue your exploration in and around Lychee Bay, with its waterways, numerous lychee trees, and traditional Chinese architecture. Here you’ll experience Guangzhou’s peaceful pace before enjoying a Cantonese opera, considered the true essence of Lingnan (or Cantonese) culture.

The final stop of the day is Shamian Island, near the Pearl River. Enjoy the main attraction here - the European style architecture featured amongst tree-lined streets. It’s a favorite spot for locals and travelers alike, and the perfect place to wander and perhaps enjoy a traditional Chinese tea.

Relax on the return train trip to Hong Kong where you’ll be greeted by your Hong Kong guide and escorted back to the hotel.

Tripadvisor score Chinatours Beijing with Linda Sun

March 2025

So far our experience with Chinatours has been excellent. Starting with the communication by email with Lora, to the time we spent with Linda (our local guide in Beijing).

Traveling to a country where the culture and language are so different from what we are accustomed to can be unnerving, but so far Linda, Lora, and our driver in Beijing, Mr Zhou, have kept us informed, put us at ease and made our visit as comfortable as possible.
