Unleash your inner photographic genius and capture magical moments at sunset before checking in to your hotel in Luoping. Rise early on day two to gather more content for your photographic adventure. Ascend Jinji Peak for a bird’s eye view of the amazing canola fields in full bloom – a stunning and unique perspective you will want to savor. The sightseeing continues at Jiulong Waterfalls nearby. Prepare yourself for a contemplative experience as you walk up the mountain to finally soak up the glorious panoramic view from the observation deck at the top. Itinerary

Day 1 – Kunming – Shilin (Stone Forest) - Luoping

Start the tour when your local guide and driver collect you from your hotel in Kunming at the time confirmed (our guide will contact you in advance to confirm the pickup time).

The first stop of today’s journey is Green Lake Park, a tranquil beauty in the city center of Kunming. Stroll through the tree-lined causeways, ancient stone bridges and the classic pavilions, you will see locals enjoying their morning exercises with the blend of Taichi, jogging, dancing, and singing. The park shows Kunming exactly as it is - slow-paced life, spring all year around, a relaxed and peaceful retreat.

Continue the tour with a 1.5-hour drive  to the fascinating Stone Forest. Here you can marvel at the phenomenon of the broad expanse of karst limestone pillars in fantastic shapes that resemble a forest when viewed from a distance. Formed by the movement of the earth 270 million years ago, through exposure to wind and running water, these extraordinary formations are of considerable interest to geologists. Remarkably, the forest itself remains home to the Yi minority people, renowned for their diligent work ethic, vibrantly colorful embroidery, and traditional dancing. Leave the Stone Forest and enjoy a leisurely drive to Luoping, about two hours away. It’s here you’ll discover the content for your photographic adventure. On arrival, the guide will take you to the seemingly endless canola fields covered in brightly colored yellow rapeseed flowers. Take time to savor the experience and capture beautiful images of the magnificent sunset that provides the stunning backdrop to this scene. Once you’ve had your fill of photography for the day, the guide will take you to the hotel in Luoping for check in. Relax for the evening or step out to enjoy the local dining options.

Meals included: None

Note: Our local guide will contact you in advance to arrange the pick up time from your hotel.

Day 2 – Luoping (Jinji Peak – Jiulong Waterfall) – Kunming

Today requires an early start if you have your heart set on a sunrise photo shoot. To capture the most stunning travel memories – think mist covered fields of rapeseed flowers - your guide will take you to Jinji Peak (Golden Rooster Peak) for a bird’s eye view of the amazing canola fields in full bloom.

The sightseeing continues at Jiulong Waterfall (Nine Dragons Waterfall) nearby, where you’ll encounter spectacular waterfalls that ‘step’ down the mountain into the valley and river below. Feel the aliveness and beauty in the forest with the scent of canola in the air as you meander through the valley on a bamboo raft.

Today’s activities conclude with your return to the hotel in Kunming, about three hours drive away.

Meals included: Breakfast

Note: There is much to see and do in and around Kunming, particularly for the nature lover and photographer looking for beautiful travel memories. If that’s you, why not take advantage of the opportunity while you’re in the region and extend this tour by visiting Xingyi in Guizhou, where the stunning Wanfenglin Scenic Area is located. Making travel plans like this is easy. Just let us know and we’ll take care of every detail. Just ask us!

Tripadvisor score Our first time to China

July 2026

We have had a phenomenal trip with China Tours. We flew into Shanghai and we were met by Lucy at Customs. Three nights gave us plenty of time to see the sites in Shanghai, Suzhou and Tongli, the museum, a few gardens, park, French section, the Bund and the old section. The Hotel was gorgeous! Next we flew to Xi’an where we were met by Eric and our driver. Both Eric and Lucy are fluent in English. Both are incredible knowledgeable about their perspective cities. With Eric we visited the Terracotta Soldiers, and Goose Pagoda. I left my phone in the restroom of the Pagoda. I realized my phone was missing about 30 minutes and 35 miles later. Eric went the extra mile, my phone was found intact and after a special detour it was returned to me. If coming to Xi’an I recommend Eric as your guide. There is so much to see and do here! A natural hot springs, mountain trails, museums, the City wall!
I am very impresssed with how smooth our trip has been and how personalized it is. From the accommodations, the drivers, guides, tours, in country flights I am incredibly pleased with Chinatours and I recommend them highly.

So impressed with China Tours. Communication from the main contact (Dora) was clear and timely. I had three guides on the trip (Lee, Summer and John), all of them were perfect with good communications and a friendly / knowledgeable delivery of their local knowledge. I highly recommend China Tours to anyone who wants to see some of the amazing sights China has to offer

Tripadvisor score Xi’an Must Do Experience

July 2026

Xi’an was an unexpected delight! So much to see and do. In a couple days we were able to visit the City Wall, Terracotta Warriors, Muslim quarter, and Big Wild Goose Pagoda. On our guide Eric’s recommendation we even saw an incredible live show with live camels and wolves and all kinds of special effects. Eric made the tour particularly special with his great attitude, videos to explain history, and sense of humour. Eric took exceptional care of us. We joked his backpack was magical as he always seemed to have anything one would want - an umbrella, extra fan, snack, or even a prop to demonstrate an ancient amusement. He was respectful and interested in our culture. He will leave enormous shoes to fill for our remaining guides!

What a great place, in particular the Terracotta Warriors outside Xi’an, which were absolutely amazing. We also enjoyed the City Walls, the Great Wild Goose Pagoda, the Muslim Markets and the Shadow puppet show in the old Chinese house. Our guide, Crystal, was extremely knowledgeable and keen to teach us and our driver, Lena, was excellent. Thank you.
