Kunming
Luoping

A two day tour that will delight intrepid travelers who love nature, photography, and the chance to add unique travel memories to their treasure trove. On day one, you will visit the remarkable Stone Forest, a natural phenomenon of karst limestone pillars in fantastic shapes formed by the movement of the earth 270 million years ago. Drive to Luoping, about two hours away, and find yourself in the midst of an endless sea of yellow rapeseed flower fields. Unleash your inner photographic genius and capture magical moments at sunset before checking in to your hotel in Luoping. Rise early on day two to gather more content for your photographic adventure. Ascend Jinji Peak for a bird’s eye view of the amazing canola fields in full bloom – a stunning and unique perspective you will want to savor. The sightseeing continues at Jiulong Waterfalls nearby. Prepare yourself for a contemplative experience as you walk up the mountain to finally soak up the glorious panoramic view from the observation deck at the top. Inclusive of accommodation, transfers, and an English speaking guide who wants you to thoroughly enjoy your experience, this wonderful travel adventure can be taken on its own or in conjunction with other tours in the region, China or Indochina. Just ask us and we’ll take care of every detail.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Kunming – Shilin (Stone Forest) - Luoping

Start the tour when your local guide and driver collect you from your hotel in Kunming and drive about 1.5 hours to the fascinating Stone Forest. Here you can marvel at the phenomenon of the broad expanse of karst limestone pillars in fantastic shapes that resemble a forest when viewed from a distance. Formed by the movement of the earth 270 million years ago, through exposure to wind and running water, these extraordinary formations are of considerable interest to geologists. Remarkably, the forest itself remains home to the Yi minority people, renowned for their diligent work ethic, vibrantly colorful embroidery, and traditional dancing. Leave the Stone Forest and enjoy a leisurely drive to Luoping, about two hours away. It’s here you’ll discover the content for your photographic adventure. On arrival, the guide will take you to the seemingly endless canola fields covered in brightly colored yellow rapeseed flowers. Take time to savor the experience and capture beautiful images of the magnificent sunset that provides the stunning backdrop to this scene. Once you’ve had your fill of photography for the day, the guide will take you to the hotel in Luoping for check in. Relax for the evening or step out to enjoy the local dining options.

Meals included: None

Note: Our local guide will contact you in advance to arrange the pick up time from your hotel.

Day 2 – Luoping (Jinji Peak – Jiulong Waterfall) – Kunming

Today requires an early start if you have your heart set on a sunrise photo shoot. To capture the most stunning travel memories – think mist covered fields of rapeseed flowers - your guide will take you to Jinji Peak (Golden Rooster Peak) for a bird’s eye view of the amazing canola fields in full bloom.

The sightseeing continues at Jiulong Waterfall (Nine Dragons Waterfall) nearby, where you’ll encounter spectacular waterfalls that ‘step’ down the mountain into the valley and river below. Feel the aliveness and beauty in the forest with the scent of canola in the air as you meander through the valley on a bamboo raft.

Today’s activities conclude with your return to the hotel in Kunming, about three hours drive away.

Meals included: Breakfast

Note: There is much to see and do in and around Kunming, particularly for the nature lover and photographer looking for beautiful travel memories. If that’s you, why not take advantage of the opportunity while you’re in the region and extend this tour by visiting Xingyi in Guizhou, where the stunning Wanfenglin Scenic Area is located. Making travel plans like this is easy. Just let us know and we’ll take care of every detail. Just ask us!

Tripadvisor score First Time Traveller 10/10

Oct 2025 • Solo

My entire experience was a 10/10 - the hotels, schedules, timeliness and even the tour guides - on par, they spoke English and gave a lot of insights into historical events and cultural significance as we went on various tours. I would highly recommend! My entire two weeks was absolutely exciting, little packed but worth it. Definitely using China Tours for my next trip!

Tripadvisor score Once in a life time. Don’t miss it!

We love China Tours, and glad we chose them.

So far, we’re having a wonderful experience with our tour guide, Helena, in Hong Kong. She is incredibly knowledgeable, speaks excellent English, and shared so much fascinating information about every place we visited. She took us to many interesting and beautiful locations that we might never have discovered on our own. Throughout the day, she was patient, kind, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Her professionalism and friendly personality made the tour both enjoyable and memorable. We are very grateful for her guidance and would highly recommend her to anyone visiting Hong Kong, and we can’t wait to visit China too!

Tripadvisor score An unforgettable experience in Xi’an!

Oct 2025 • Couples

This is the fourth time I write this review because tripadvisor keeps saying it was made using AI. As a non-native English speaker, I used AI to give Cathy the highest praise I could for taking care of us during our trip to Xi'an. She's the best and takes care of every single detail. To Cathy my biggest thanks and to tripadvisor and its insipid AI I hope you detect a drop in content creation due to this.

I was a little nervous- never been to Asia, never used this company etc but WOW. I was completely blown away by the service. I booked the two week tour that included Beijing- Xi-an Yangtze cruise- Zhangjiajie and Shanghai. The hotels were fabulous. The transportation included two high speed trains, plane, and private driving service. The guides were top notch and stayed with us until we were on the train and another met us at the other end when we stepped off. Our group was small so we were mobile and able to navigate easily. There wasn’t any shopping stops.

Tripadvisor score Great time in China

Sept 2025 • Solo

I traveled through China with China Tours from Sep. 11th to 25th and had a great time. I visited Beijing, Xian, Chongqing, Yangtze river cruise, Zhangjiajie and Shanghai. Everything went smoothly and the tour guides are really helpful and professional. It would be fair to mention their names, just to give them their due: Lee in Beijing, Helen in Xian, Winnie in Chongqing, Lucy in Zhangjiajie and John and Cici in Shanghai. There are many highlights in a country like China, but from a foreigner's point of view maybe Chongqing stands out clearly, if only for unusual, and touring with Winnie, with her deep knowledge of the city made for a great experience.

I had a fantastic trip in China. I was met by 4 different guides in China in each city. In Beijing, I was met by Lindsey , in Xian By Linda, Warren in Shangai and Mathew in Hong kong. They were all very professional and I enjoyed the stories. You have a beautiful country and a lot of history I will definitely recommend China Tours. I met some wonderful people too. The highlight of the tour was surprising my son Jason in Hong Kong as he was celebrating his 30th 🥰
