Travel the Suhua Highway to your next destination, Hualien, making the most of the spectacular scenery on the route. Kids will love the Dong’ao indigenous village for a chance to see the villager’s traditional lifestyle firsthand. Move on to what is perhaps Taiwan’s most renowned national park, Taroko, where sights like Taroko Gorge Gateway, Shakadang Trails, Eternal Spring Shrine, Swallow Grotto, and Tunnel of Nine Turns will enthrall. After overnighting here, rejoin the Suhua Highway and enjoy the very best of Taiwan’s ocean and mountain landscapes. Round out your tour with time in New Taipei, including a visit to the renowned Yehliu Geopark, where engaging activities can be enjoyed by the whole family and treasured long after they return home.

With daily breakfasts, freedom to enjoy the best of local cuisine at lunch and dinner, the choice of four and five-star hotels, gorgeous scenery on par with the world’s best, hands-on farm and indigenous village experiences, and travel by road that brings you closer to the real Taiwan, and the flexibility to adjust the itinerary to suit you, this tour will expand the mind of your family, while bringing you closer together. Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Taipei

Arrive at Taipei Taoyuan airport where you’ll be greeted by your local guide. Escorted by your driver, you’ll be transported directly to your hotel, on the way taking the opportunity to learn a little about this vibrant city. After check-in, you’re free to rest, relax, or explore the local surroundings. Be sure to check with your guide for insider local dining options. Taipei abounds in traditional and contemporary cuisine, with our selection, including Din Tai Fung for steamed stuffed buns and dumplings or Shi-Yang for a unique dining experience of creating fine food in a thoughtfully designed tranquil setting.

Meals included: Nil

Note: Starting from January 1, 2025, the hotels in Taiwan will no longer provide the disposable toiletries (e.g. toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, razors, and shower caps) in the guest rooms to align with government’s green travel policy.

Day 2 - Taipei

Joined by your guide after breakfast, take a leisurely bike ride around the Dajia Riverside Park before visiting the National Palace Museum. Here you’ll discover the museum’s remarkable collection of artifacts, treasures, and antiquities that transport you through Chinese history. From there, head to Tamsui. Amble along Tamsui Old Street with your guide, as you explore the history of the area famous for its ‘old world’ feel, endless shopping choices, and delicious, must-try local specialties. Spend the afternoon being enthralled by the bird’s-eye panoramic view of Taipei city and well beyond by taking the lift 89 storeys to enjoy the Taipei 101 Observatory. Finish your day in by joining locals filling up with what is widely recognized as some of the best traditional Taiwanese street foods and snacks at the nostalgic Ningxia Night Market. The market is Taipei’s longest-running organized food market and is beloved by locals, ex-pats, and international visitors. Once you’ve had your fill, your guide will return you to the hotel.

Meals included: Breakfast

Note: Due to the closure of the National Palace Museum each Monday, your tour guide may adjust your itinerary.

Day 3 – Taipei - Toucheng

Say goodbye to Taipei and make your way to Yilan, home to hot and cold springs, beautiful beaches, and family-friendly activities. Appreciate the impressive engineering and construction as you drive through the Hsuehshan Tunnel, one of the longest road tunnels in the world. Your destination for the day is Toucheng Farm, an eco-friendly organic vegetable and animal farm. The whole family will enjoy the opportunity for a hands-on educational experience of a Taiwanese farmer’s lifestyle. After check-in takes the remainder of the day to wander the farm or join the arranged activities. Fancy making a sky lantern or painting your wishes before releasing them into the night sky? You can at Toucheng Farm.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 4 – Yilan – Taroko Gorge

Start your day inhaling the fresh farm air, then enjoy a hearty breakfast of farm ingredients before commencing the drive to Hualien following the Suhua Highway. On route, make a stop at Dong'ao indigenous village, where the local culture and traditions can be experienced firsthand. With the help of your guide, enjoy a typical indigenous-flavored lunch at the renowned Dageeli Indigenous House on your way to Taroko. After lunch, your adventure at Taroko National Park starts, with many incredible points of natural interest and beauty on the itinerary: Taroko Gorge Gateway, Shakadang Trails, Eternal Spring Shrine, Swallow Grotto, Tunnel of Nine Turns, and more. At the end of your day’s sightseeing, check in to your hotel, located in the Taroko National Park itself.

Meals included: Breakfast

(Taroko National Park was closed due to serious damage from the massive earthquake in April 2024. As of March 2025, some areas of the park are reopened while most trails and attractions still remain closed.)

Day 5 – Taroko Gorge - Yilan

After breakfast and checking out hotel, drive to Yilan along Suhua Highway and make a stop at Suao to explore the fishing port and its bustling traditional seafood market. Visit the National Center for Traditional Arts, a thoughtfully designed facility dedicated to the preservation of traditional performing and creative art forms in Taiwanese culture. When you arrive at Sanxing, a town that trades on its reputation as Taiwan’s premium scallion producer, make your way to perhaps the region’s best-known scallion farm. Join the farm’s guide who will offer a full farm-to-table experience, instructing on the traditional local method for preparing scallion pancakes, starting with a harvest of the scallions. Leave the farm and make your way to the bustling Luodong Night Market. Get amongst it with locals and enjoy the Yilan-style street foods and snacks. After being on the move all day, balance out the activity with a relaxing natural hot spring bath at the hotel in Yilan.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 6 – Yilan – Yehliu - Taipei

Check out the hotel and visit the Lanyang Museum in the morning to learn about the local history, the culture, and the landscape in Yilan. Head to Jiufen Village, enjoying a scenic drive along Taiwan’s Northeast Coast. Enjoy the guided walking tour through the village’s historical street. Following lunch, ordered with the assistance of your guide, your sightseeing continues with the drive to Yehliu Geopark. Marvel at the remarkable natural rock formations created by erosion and other natural forces. Let your imagination carry you away with what you ‘see’; mushrooms, animals, heads, and more. If time permits, a stop will be made at Xiaoyoukeng Geological Site of Yangmingshan National Park, worth a visit for the eerie spectacle created by the volcano’s fumarole. From here, you will be transferred to your hotel for the evening.

Meals included: Breakfast

They were all very professional and I enjoyed the stories. You have a beautiful country and a lot of history I will definitely recommend China Tours. I met some wonderful people too. The highlight of the tour was surprising my son Jason in Hong Kong as he was celebrating his 30th 🥰

Tripadvisor score The best tour I have ever had

Sept 2025 • Solo

Usually I only write negative reviews, but this time it is an exception. Unfortunately I can give only 5 stars, but the company deserves 100 stars. Everything was exceptional, from organizing starting with some places I had in mind to visit, to every single detail of the trip. In other words it was perfect. I chose what I wanted to visit and Martha, the person who replied to my first inquiry, proposed the tour. I wanted to be alone in the tour, which is the best (only you and the guide), but maybe due to the requests, in two places I was with another couple from USA, which was really great. While on tour I realized that there are places I want to visit, but there was no time for this. This means next year I have to come back, but this time I will be alone. There are some things when you have to be alone, no matter how nice the other group members are. Of course if I will come back, I will use China Tours.

Tripadvisor score Amazing China

Aug 2025 • Couples

We had a great 14 day trip with a week gap in the middle to attend the world games in Chengdu. With only three weeks before we departed Dora provided a draft itinerary in 2 hours that required only minor changes. Dora was always available to sort any issues for the whole trip - but tracking down our lost luggage was an outstanding effort. In Guilin we were greeted by Joanne who made our first days in China very memorable, Longji rice terraces and trying local food were highlights. Thanks for the thoughtful train snacks Joanne. Lucy met us at Zhangjiajie and was great company as well as a great guide especially in the amazing and extensive Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Thanks for the local restaurant tips Lucy. The fast train across the mountains that divide southern and northern China to Xi’an, led us to Helen and her driver who covered both exits to ensure we did not get lost. Helen shared her love and vast knowledge of ancient China - terracotta warriors, and the amazing historic and modern Xi’an. Thanks Helen you brought two thousand years of history and the Silk Road to life. Our last fast train brought us to Beijing and the super resilient Lee, preparations for the victory over Japan parade in Tiananmen Square complicated things and meant that despite great effort by Lee and Dora we will have to visit the square next time. Lee managed the situation very well and we enjoyed our forbidden city, summer palace, Hutongs and temple of heaven day followed by a whole day on the Great Wall which was amazing. Thanks Lee, smiling and super cool under pressure. Special thanks to all our drivers, whose skill, patience and endless bottles of water made every trip stress free. All our hotels were well chosen and met or exceeded expectations. China was fascinating, friendly and full of new experiences, China tours made sure we enjoyed every moment. We’ll be recommending them to our friends and hope to come back and explore more of this beautiful country .
