Chengdu panda Base is a feeding center devoted to the breeding,research and conservation of the giant panda

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, about 40 minutes' drive from Chengdu, was established in March 1987. 20 years of development later, the population of giant pandas has swelled from the original 6 rescued from the wild, to 83 healthy bears.

As a non-profit feeding center for giant pandas and other endangered species, it is devoted to the breeding, research and conservation of the giant panda, providing excellent opportunities to know more about these adorable, endangered mammals.

    March to April is mating season for Giant Pandas, and August to December is their birthing period.

    You can appreciate the giant Panda’s smaller cousin in the Red Pandas Area, where adorable red pandas are kept in a large, dense section where they can enjoy roaming, and frequently pop out of their enclosure fence. It’s common to see them running past visitors or gazing at people with inquisitive eyes.

    You can get a hold of more knowledge of the species, evolution, history and characteristics through its scientific displays, including vivid pictures of pandas, specimens of giant pandas and exhibitions of their habitats.

    Travel Tips
    • Morning is the best time to visit as the chubby pandas are more active.
    • Battery cars are available for all tourists, but we suggest you take your time and enjoy the enchanting walk through the Panda sanctuary, surrounded by thick vegetation and amazing bamboo forests.
    • Please do not take photos with flash or knock at the window to attract pandas.
