Start your adventure from Shanghai where you will explore its classical garden, bustling shopping areas and glamorous skyline on the Bund. Move onto Hangzhou which offers a variety of activities, like Grand Canal cruise, boat trip on the West Lake, tea-picking in idyllic tea village, etc. Finally get inspired by a worthy hiking on the magnificent Huangshan Mountain, including a side trip to Hongcun Village with hundreds of old hui style buildings.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Shanghai

Your personal guide will pick you up and escort you to the hotel upon your arrival at Shanghai. You have the rest of the day to relax or explore the city on your own.

Day 2Shanghai (B)

After breakfast, start your day with the Yuyuan Garden with a history of about 450 years. Spend your time admiring decorated pavilions, corridors and rock formations which perfectly blend with natural landscaping. Move onto the nearby Chenghuangmiao Bazaar where you can try out local snacks, look for souvenirs and relive the old days of Shanghai. Drive to Shanghai Museum; the amazing exhibit of over 120,000 art pieces will give you a snapshot of Chinese culture and history.

Lunch is left to your own arrangement. You could ask the recommendation of your guide to taste authentic local cuisine.

After that, head to the Oriental Pearl Tower and take a lift up to its observation deck, where the wonderful panorama of Shanghai’s skyline awaits. Seize the opportunity to take some photos.

Later, proceed to Nanjing Road, the busiest shopping area in the metropolis, and The Bund on Shanghai’s waterfront to absorb the breathtaking contrast of magnificent old European architectures and modern skyscrapers.

Note: Shanghai Museum is closed to public on Mondays, then Shanghai History Museum will be arranged on the day instead.

Day 3 Shanghai-Hangzhou (B)

After breakfast, you will be transferred to railway station and board on your bullet train heading to Hangzhou. Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to the hotel for check-in. Then your Hangzhou tour begins.

Get ready to be amazed by 20 kinds of traditional Chinese craftsmanship at the Workmanship Demonstration Pavilion and try your hands with craftsmen to paint your own oil-paper umbrella or make flying kite.

Relax yourself with a cruise down the Grand Canal. Watch old residences, bridges and red lanterns creating a beautiful picture along with their reflections in the river. Later, you will be able to stretch your leg in the Dadou Road Historic Block, a visitor-friendly area packed full of quaint shops in Ming and Qing dynasty styles, selling various crafts and local snacks.

At the end of the day, transfer to your hotel.

Day 4 Hangzhou (B)

After breakfast, you will head to Hangzhou’s famous landmark, West Lake. Make a stopover at the Red Carp Pond, one of top ten famous views of the West Lake. Indulge in a boat cruise to appreciate serene natural scenery enhanced by historic pagodas and pavilions. Spot a number of scenic sites like the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, Su Causeway, etc. as the boat meanders along.

Continue to the Feilai Peak and be surprised by hundreds of ancient Buddhist rock carvings from various different time periods. Drop by the Lingyin Temple, one of the most famous Buddhist temples in China. Marvel at ornately painted halls and ceilings in the smell of incense. Listen as your guide unveils the historical legends behind the temple.

Lastly, you will enjoy the picturesque view of tea plantation surrounded by verdant tea fields. Learn about tea culture with your tour guide while strolling in the tea plantation, or take the chance to pick tea leaves if it is the harvest season.

Night Activities: Complete your Hangzhou day with an evening show – Enduring Memories of Hangzhou (Impression West Lake), or the spectacular night view at Qiantang River on weekends.

Day 5Hangzhou-Huangshan (B)

In the morning, say goodbye to Hangzhou and leave for Huangshan city by a 3.5 hours’ high-speed train trip.

Upon arrival, transfer directly to Tunxi Old Street for a visit. Enjoy a leisure walk on the historic block, composed of more than 300 most complete Huizhou architectures, with white walls, grey tiles and intricate carvings. Or indulge in souvenir shopping among old stores of all kinds.

Afterwards, you will be escorted to your hotel in downtown for a good rest.

Day 6Huangshan (B+L+D)

In the morning, take a 1-hour ride to Huangshan Mountain (Yellow Mountains), one of the most celebrated mountains in China.

Upon arrival, hop on a shuttle bus to the Yungu Cable Car which will ride you up to the mountain in ten minutes. Follow your guide to conquer major sites like the towering Begin-to-Believe Peak, the majestic Lion Peak, the Writing-Brush Peak, etc. There are plenty of sightseeing and photo ops while hiking along.

Replenish some energy from your lunch. Continue your adventure to the West Sea Grand Canyon, a hiker’s fairyland for its miraculous scenery with steep precipices, peculiarly-shaped rocks, ancient pine trees, and sea of clouds. The 4.5 km trail penetrates deep into the ravine and can be a difficult trek. It’s your choice whether to follow the winding path down to the bottom or only walk a small section of it, for example to finish the First Ring or Second Ring.

Finish the hiking, get back to your hotel on the mountain and have a sound night’s sleep.

Day 7Huangshan-Hongcun Village-Departure (B)

If weather permits, get up early and start your day with the stunning sunrise on the top of Huangshan Mountain. Later, get down by cable car and drive to Hongcun Village, praised as “a village in Chinese Painting". Here you can have a nice walk along flagstone lanes, see well preserved residences from Ming and Qing Dynasties and soak up picturesque rural scenery featuring in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".

Afterwards, you will be transferred to the airport or railway station for your next destination.
