Detail Itinerary

Day 1 Beijing – Old Dragon's Head – Shanhaiguan Great Wall (B+L+D)

After having breakfast, your guide and driver will take you to the first destination – Old Dragon's Head which is 400 kilometers away from downtown Beijing (about 4 hours' drive). In the wake of the lunch, we will pay a visit to the easternmost point of the Great Wall – Old Dragon’s Head where the Wall meets the sea.

Qinhuangdao Old Dragon's Head

After the visit, we head directly to Shanhai Pass, which is also known as the First Pass under Heaven. About one and a half hours excursion leads us to see the grand Gate Tower of the Shanhai Pass Fortress from distance. A short drive will take us to the Fortress in which houses the Great Wall Museum learning about the different functions that the Wall equipped in ancient times.

Then, we will be transferred to a courtyard hotel near the Wall that equipped with private washroom and hot showers.

Day 2 Jiaoshan – Sandaoguan Great Wall (B+L+D; 12 km, 6-7 hrs)

In the morning, we will be transferred to the foot of Jiaoshan Mountain. Climb up directly to the Wall, where we have chance to see the panorama of Shanhai Pass City on a clear day. Then, we continue to hike both on the wall and on the wild mountain because the wall was built following the mountain ups and downs. Although the section has suffered from severe natural erosion, the scenery from the top catches your breath for good.

Qinhuangdao Jiaoshan Mountain

Trek till we hit Mt. Longevity. There is a serene and pretty valley housing gigantic rocks, lush greens as well as dynamic creeks. Besides it, a small village of Sandao Pass sits here with about 35 households. Walk down to the village to take a short rest.

Qinhuangdao Sandao Pass

Stay overnight at a courtyard hotel in Shanhai Pass.

Day 3 Dongjiakou – Great Wall village (B+L+D; 10 km, 5-6 hrs)

The sightseeing today starts with a short hike from Dongjiakou village. Ascend to the top of mountain viewing the Cihou Tower which is a unique construction that is only seen at this section of the Wall. Newfound Dongjiakou section of Great Wall, built in Ming Dynasty, was once hided in the deepest forests with the length of 8.9km and profound history of 600 years. It is the least touristy section among the whole great wall.

Qinhuangdao Dongjiakou Great Wall

Finishing the hiking on Dongjiakou, we return to the beginning – Dongjiakou Village to chat with the local people whose descendants were the builders and guards of the Great Wall section. They have almost been depending on themselves to protect this portion of the Wall. We hike to the west along the Wall witnessing the vicissitudes that Dongjiakou suffered, stopping to lunch during the journey.

After a 3-hour hike, we head to the Eastern Qing Tombs, where we stay in a hotel nearby. (Two beds per room, with private washroom)

Day 4 Eastern Qing Tomb – Huangya Pass Section Great Wall (B+L+D; 1.5 hrs)

Begin your exploration from the Eastern Qing Tombs – it is the largest and best-preserved royal mausoleum of Qing Dynasty, even surpassing the Ming Tombs in scale. After lunch, we will drive half an hour to get to a small village near Huangya Pass. From here, we will hike westward to reach Huangya Pass - a small portion of the Great Wall.

Stay overnight at the courtyard hotel in Huangyaguan (two beds per room, with private washroom).

Day 5 Huangya Pass – a small mountain village (B+L+D, 8 km, 4-5 hours hiking)

Huangya Pass, where we start trekking, is located in the center of the Yanshan Mountain, possesses more than 1400 years of history. After twice repairs, it is now opening to the tourists from the rest of the world. "Heaven's Ladder", as the most appealing part, is a sheer ladder with 200 stone stairs leading to the summit.

We climb to the crest enjoying the sublime scenery along the Wall and marveling at the difficulties when the builders constructed it and protected it. Along the Wall ups and downs, finally we descend to the valley where our bus is waiting for us.

Later, we will be transferred to Jinshanling, where we stay night in the hostel at the bottom (two persons per room, with private washroom).

Day 6 Gubeikou – Jinshanling Great Wall (B+L+D; 10km, 5-6 hrs)

Recharged by a local breakfast, we hike from Gubeikou to Jinshanling Great Wall, which was built from 1570, the Ming Dynasty. Standing on it, you can overlook the spectacular scenery – rolling mountains hovered by mist and slight clouds. This section of the wall connected with Simatai Great Wall, where we check-in comfortable traditional style room in the Watertown at the bottom.

To feed our appetite, in the late afternoon, we will hike to Simatai Great Wall to enjoy the overwhelming sunset. Once, an expert researching on the Great Wall said: “The Great Wall is the best of the Chinese buildings, and Simatai is the best of the Great Wall.” Later, this section has been listed as the one of the World Cultural Heritage Sites. Or we can take a stroll on it to measure its greatness by foot.

Tonight, we will be treated a great diner.

Day 7 Gubei Water Town – Simatai Great Wall (B+L; 6 km, 2-3 hrs)

Today, the time before lunch is left on your own to saunter in the Gubei Water Town – which integrates the great wall, mountains and lakes as well as old village. Sit back and enjoy different scenery in water town or take cultural activities (learning tie-dye, kite painting, the all need to be booked ahead of time) with the local.

Beijing Gubeikou Watertown

Or you are able to hike the Simatai Great Wall again in early morning to see the magnificent sunrise. It is indeed an "once-in-a-lifetime experience".

After lunch, we will drive back to Beijing, the end of the tour.
