Brief information on Lhasa

Situated at the foot of Mount Gephel, Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world. Its altitude is 3,490 meters and compared to sea level, the air there only contains 68% oxygen. It is the administrative capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China. It is the home of Potala Palace, Norbulingka and Johkang Temple, which are included as World Heritage Sites. Jokhang Temple is also reputed as the holiest center in Tibet. Around the sacred Jokhang Temple is the flourishing Barkhor Street. Besides those, the famous monasteries and the holy Namtso Lake are all the things which attract more and more visitors to Lhasa.
